Gayer Anderson Museum

In 1935, Gayer Anderson, an English military doctor stationed in Egypt, received permission to live in and restore two historic 16th and 17th-century Ottoman houses. He furnished the homes with an extensive collection of regional antiquities, which he donated to the Egyptian people upon his departure in 1942. Today, these historic buildings collectively known as the Geyer Anderson Museum or Bayt al-Kritlyya, preserve both his remarkable collection and the rich architectural heritage of their original owners.
