Port Said’s Cathedral

The Cathedral of the Virgin Mary and St. Michael the Archangel in Port Said is an architectural marvel designed like Noah’s Ark, featuring a stunning hand-painted fabric dome filled with religious and astronomical symbols. Built in 1930 at the entrance of the Suez Canal, it originally served the Catholic community before becoming an Orthodox church, which is why it uniquely houses two altars facing different directions. Beyond its breathtaking design, the cathedral holds priceless artifacts, including a pure white marble statue of the Virgin Mary and sacred relics like a piece of the Holy Cross, making it a peaceful sanctuary rich in both history and spirituality.
